South Africa
Journey from vibrant Cape Town along the scenic Garden Route to thrilling Big 5 safaris in South Africa's Eastern Cape.
Discover the very best of South Africa on this guaranteed small-group, set-departure tour that begins in cosmopolitan Cape Town and ends amid the wildlife-rich plains of the Eastern Cape. Over eleven memorable days you will travel by comfortable Seat-in-Coach from the shadow of Table Mountain through the celebrated Garden Route to the malaria-free reserves of the Greater Addo region, taking in an extraordinary variety of landscapes, cultures and wildlife along the way. Your adventure opens in Cape Town, where a half-day city orientation introduces the colourful Bo-Kaap, the leafy Company Gardens and the historic Castle of Good Hope, while a full-day Cape Peninsula tour reveals the dramatic coastline of Chapman's Peak Drive, the Cape of Good Hope and the comical African penguins at Boulders Beach. A day in the Cape Winelands brings tastings at renowned estates before you set off along famous Route 62 towards Oudtshoorn, home to the remarkable Cango Caves and working ostrich farms. The scenic Garden Route then carries you through Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, with a visit to Monkeyland and a forest walk near the Storms River Mouth in Tsitsikamma. The journey culminates at Bellevue Forest Reserve, a private malaria-free sanctuary neighbouring Addo Elephant National Park. Here you can look forward to exhilarating Big 5 game drives, an intimate giraffe tracking walk on foot and a guided safari into Addo itself, all rounded off with luxury tented accommodation and warm South African hospitality. This is Africa at its most authentic — untamed, breathtaking and profoundly moving.
Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport, a private transfer takes you to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to settle in and explore your surroundings at your own pace.
Meet your private guide for a morning orientation tour. Ascend Table Mountain by cableway for panoramic views of the City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard. Continue to the vibrant Bo-Kaap, Company Gardens, and Greenmarket Square, with a scenic drive past the Castle of Good Hope. The afternoon is free for independent exploration.
Embark on a full-day tour of the Cape Peninsula. Travel the scenic Atlantic Seaboard, passing Clifton and Camps Bay, and drive along the famous Chapman's Peak. Visit the Cape of Good Hope, Boulders Beach to see the African penguins, and the coastal towns of Simon's Town, Kalk Bay, and Muizenberg.
Travel to the nearby Cape Winelands, an area defined by dramatic mountains and historic Cape Dutch architecture. Explore the towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl, enjoying three distinct wine tastings featuring either a chocolate or cheese pairing at selected estates.
Depart for the Garden Route, driving along the scenic Route 62. This journey takes you through diverse landscapes toward Oudtshoorn. Enjoy stops along this famous route before arriving at your accommodation located on a working ostrich farm.
Explore the Cango Caves on a heritage tour before visiting a local ostrich farm for an informative tractor tour. Later, travel over the spectacular Outeniqua Pass to reach Knysna. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to settle into your hotel.
Spend the morning visiting the nearby town of Plettenberg Bay with a tour of Monkeyland. The afternoon is left at your leisure to enjoy the local area, with various options for water-based activities available on the Knysna lagoon.
Travel into the Eastern Cape, stopping for a forest walk at Storms River Mouth within Tsitsikamma. Arrive at Bellevue Forest Reserve. Spend the afternoon on your first game drive within the reserve before returning to the camp for dinner.
Join a giraffe tracking safari on foot in the private game reserve. Accompanied by a qualified guide and conservation ranger, observe these animals while learning about their behaviour. In the afternoon, participate in a Big 5 game drive through pristine bushveld where lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino roam freely, finishing with a return to camp at sunset.
Enjoy a guided safari into the world-renowned Addo Elephant National Park. Explore the park in open game-viewing vehicles to encounter diverse wildlife including elephant herds, zebra, kudu and warthog. Throughout the journey, expert guides share insights into the history, ecology and conservation of the region.
Enjoy a final morning game drive, time permitting, before a private transfer to Port Elizabeth Airport for your departure flight.
